A chronic lack of sleep can affect your life in many ways, from being tired, to not having enough energy to enjoy activities with your family, not sleeping well at night is a problem that millions of people in the U.S. suffer from. Several studies confirm that temporomandibular joint disorder or TMD, has a lot to do with your sleep. How Does Pain Affect Sleep?Having a good night sleep for adults can be challenging and if you are in pain it can be even more difficult to find the peace you need to fall and stay asleep every night. This can become a vicious circle if you suffer from TMD. Less sleep can increase the pain, and with more pain there is more sleep deprivation. You may have TMD without knowing, so it is important to get diagnosed if you regularly suffer from morning headaches, neck or shoulder pain, or jaw pain. Things You Can do to Sleep BetterLack of sleep can cause loss of attention and alertness during the day, which, can affect work or school. Getting a good night's sleep will help you cope with the stress, which can contribute to grinding and clenching your teeth at night, one of the most common causes of TMD. There are some things you can do to help improve your sleep: The most important thing you can do to improve the quality of your life is to get diagnosed and get treated as soon as possible.
