You Need to Turn to Us if It Gets Difficult to Breathe While Sleeping

You Need to Turn to Us if It Gets Difficult to Breathe While SleepingDo you snore? If you do, you probably already know it. Either you have awakened yourself up because you snore, or you have woken your spouse because you snore.

Snoring is a problem on its own, but it is also related to another problem- sleep apnea. If you are concerned about your snoring and other breathing problems during the night, we have some information for you.

Sleeping Problems

It is estimated as many as 20 million Americans have trouble breathing while they sleep. There are different explanations for these problems. First, you may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is caused by an excess amount of tissue in your throat, which blocks your airways while you are lying down.

You pause breathing and then restart breathing, which results in you being really tired during the day. That's because your body is waking itself up all night long every time you stop breathing. You may also have trouble breathing because of your sinuses. If your sinuses are blocked, it makes it very difficult to breathe through your nose. You will automatically open your mouth to breathe. This will leave you with dry mouth- which is not good for your oral health, because it increases the likelihood you will have more cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth.

Luckily, both of these conditions are easily treatable. Sleep apnea and snoring can both be controlled by a device that you wear in your mouth. The device pulls your jaw forward and eliminates the blockage by your throat. While surgery and other techniques are available as well, many people prefer non-invasive techniques. If you have questions about sleep apnea, breathing trouble at night, or snoring, don't hesitate to reach out and contact us today.
