Uncommon Reasons Your Jaw May HurtIf someone hits you in the jaw, you expect it to hurt. There are some other obvious reasons that your jaw could cause you pain. There are lots reasons for jaw pain that are not as obvious.

Things can happen to your jaw that you are not always aware of, but that does not mean they are something to ignore. It is better to know about these uncommon reasons for jaw pain.

Things That Don't Involve the Teeth

Some of the most obvious reasons for jaw pain involve issues with the teeth. Cavities, abscess and TMJ are things that people readily associate with jaw pain. But what about things that do not involve the teeth. Jaw pain is a symptom for these types of things as well. If you have jaw pain, it could be because of:
•  Stress - There are plenty of ways that stress affects your health. Jaw pain is just another one to add to the list. To eliminate jaw pain from stress, a person will have to find ways to manage the stressors in their life.
•  Sinus Pain - Sinus pain that is a result of allergies, sinus infections and colds can cause pain in the jaw. Treating the sinuses could eliminate the pain in the jaw.

A Dangerous Reason for Jaw Pain

One of the most dangerous things that jaw pain can signal is something most people would never think of. In women, jaw pain is a sign of a heart attack. It is not the most common symptom, but many women have reported having jaw pain occasionally during the time leading up to their heart attack.

No matter what the cause of the jaw pain, it is not something to ignore. It is important to have the pain checked out by a health professional. Since the most common causes of jaw pain are due to oral health issues, a dentist is the first place to turn. If there are one of the other more, uncommon reasons behind the jaw pain, our dental professionals can direct you to the right health professional.

Don't take risks with your health. If you experience jaw pain or have any other dental issues, contact our offices to speak to one of our dental professionals.
